A handbook deals with the material concerning a certain area of knowledge in a systematic way. The essential aspects of a subject area and current knowledge about them are displayed in overview. In comparison with general and specialist encyclopaedias and dictionaries, a handbook tends to be more technical and it goes into greater depth.
