Plastics Processing
In plastics processing articles such as moulded parts, films or fibres are manufactured from plastic raw materials.
The term plastics processing covers the production of moulded parts, semi-finished materials, fibres or films from plastic raw materials. These are usually supplied by manufacturers in the chemical industry in the form of granulate, powder, films or plates.
Various processing variants are involved such as primary shaping, plastic forming and joining.
Primary shaping describes the production of defined geometric shapes from amorphous materials. This processing type is the most commonly applied shaping method for thermoplastics.
In plastic forming processes thermoplastic blanks are heated to make them malleable. In this condition they can be given a new form using relatively little effort. The new form becomes permanent on cooling.
Joining is the process of bonding prefabricated components together permanently.
