Translation of Texts on Technology

Technology denotes the practical application of science and the manufacture of products.

The term technology includes all measures, equipment and processes which are employed to put scientific knowledge to practical use. This involves many and various techniques, whereby the term technique is also used in pure science and the arts to describe a methodical process and the implementation of a method.

Technical translations form the core of any product localisation. For their successful execution it is not sufficient for the translator simply to be a proficient linguist. He or she must also have a well-founded appreciation of the specific technology involved. We regard this as an essential skill for ourselves and the translators with whom we work.

We maintain the policy of only taking on assignments for which we have the resources necessary for high-quality translation. To this end we exploit all available terminology sources: the internet, conventional dictionaries and other reference works, company publications etc. This ensures that source and target texts correspond with each other not only from the linguistic point of view, but also in terms of technical terminology. For with technical texts it is especially important not only to provide accurate translations, but to pay attention to consistent use of terminology. These days powerful tools and terminological databases are available to help maintain consistent usage. We employ the CAT tools Heartsome, Déjà Vu, Across, Trados and Wordfast. Another quality indicator for a translation is its legibility in the sense of how accessible it is for its intended readers. This criterion is an important point of focus for our proofreaders.
