Translation systems represent intelligent assistants for translators – on the other hand, their effectiveness depends on the skill with which they are implemented. Translation memory programs register all the elements which are used in the course of a translation and suggest their reuse where they reappear in the same text or in a later translation. They can also recognise partial (‘fuzzy’) agreement between passages which are similar, but not identical.
